The Nasarawa State University, Keffi, is to collaborate with the National Veterinary Reseach Institute, Vom, in the areas of Joint Research, Exchange of Staff and Students in the form of fellowships, Sabbatical Leaves, Internships, Students Work Experience Schemes (SIWES), Artificial Insemination amongst other areas of interest.

These formed the basis of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, and the National Veterinary Research Institute, Vom, Plateau State at the Senate Chamber of the University on Wednesday.

According to Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed other fields of collaboration in the pact include Microbiology, Geology, Biochemistry, Science Laboratory Technology, Chemistry, Agric Science and Animal Breeding.

Professor Suleiman informed that the historic ceremony is the culmination of an earlier visit the management of the University paid to the premier research institute in Nigeria last year.

Professor Suleiman also affirmed the University’s commitment to the faithful implementation of the memorandum with the appointment of the Director of Research and Innovation Professor Yakubu Ngwai and Dr Sam Madaki of NVRI to ensure that the collaboration runs smoothly without hitches.

In her remarks, the Executive Director of NVRI Dr. Maryam Mohammed stated that they are looking forward to a fruitful working relationship with Nasarawa State University, Keffi. She expressed her optimism that the collaboration will increase and improve the quality of research between the two organizations affirming that the 98 year old research institute will also hold the M.O.U. in high esteem.

AljazirahNigeria reports that the highlights of the ceremony included the signing of M.O.U. by the two executives of the institutions and presentation of souvenirs,while the ceremony had in attendance principal officers of the University, Directors and representation from the Faculty of Agriculture, Lafia Campus.
