A Magistrate Court in Jos, on Monday sentenced a 43-year-old labourer, Dachung Adamu, to three months in the correctional centre for impersonating a police officer (wearing a police uniform).
The Judge, Shawomi Bokkos, who sentenced Adamu after he pleaded guilty to the charge, said that the punishment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such acts.
Bokkos, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Monday Dabit, told the court that the case was reported on March 18, at the “A” Division Police Station by one Samuel Ephraim of Nigeria Hunter’s Group.
The prosecutor said that the convict was found wearing a police uniform at Gada Biu.
The offence, he said, is punishable under the Plateau state Penal Code Law.
