A former memeber of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alh. Suleiman Dan Iya Gora, and anothers; Alh Dayi Majidadi Gora and Madaki Eshi were on August 6, 2020 arraigned at the Upper Area Court New Karu over a case of mischief on farmland situate at Gora. They narrowly escaped being remanded in prison custody.
The complainant, Hajiya Safiya Umaru averred that she owned a large expanse of farmland which the defendants conspired and entered into and caused mischief on same without her prior consent.
When the complaint was read to the defendants, they all pleaded not guilty.
The defence counsel, Sambo I. Vongjen, applied for the release of his clients on bail while his counterpart, Haruna S. I Favour who appeared for the complainant opposed as he submitted that the defendants did not place sufficient materials to entitle them to bail.
The presiding judge, Hon. Joseph Audu, in his ruling admitted the defendants to bail and adjourned the matter to September 7, 2020.
In the same vein, the senior Magistrate Court sitting at Kodope also admitted the defendants to bail over a case of trespass to land.
In his ruling, the presiding Magistrate, Hon. Theophilus T. Lama cautioned the defendants to steer clear of the farmland pending the final determination of the substantive case.
