  • Targets returnees and expatriates.

To guard against the prevailing global health emergency of the Coronavirus, Ebonyi State Government has mounted medical and security surveillance at all major entry points into the state.

Under the strategy, all returnees and expatriates shall henceforth, undergo medical screening with a follow-up for two weeks.

According to a release from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Governor David Umahi has also set up an implementation committee headed by the SSG, Kenneth Ugbala towards achieving intended results. 

The release further quoted the Governor to have approved immediate procurement of seven Hilux brand pick-up vans and seven buses to be deployed to the six exit and entrance check-points as well as the treatment centre created at the Unity Square, Abakaliki. 

Part of the release explained: “State Government therefore, establishes screaming check-points at the following entry Sport  namely; at Ishielu for Ebonyi/Enugu boarder; Nwezenyi for Ebonyi/Ogoja-lkom axis; Abaomege for  Ebonyi/ Itigidi-Ugeb axis; Nguzu Edda for Ebonyi/ Abiriba/Ohafia axis; Mile 2 Ishaigu, for Ebonyi/Abia State border and Umunaga-Uburu, for Ebonyi/Enugu State boundary.

“All returnees and expatriates must report at the points of entry for documentation and surveillance.”

The release enjoined the Public to observe the recommended precautionary measures such as regular hand washing, improved personal and environmental hygiene as well adequate water intake.

It also advised citizens to avoid unprotected contact with wild animals, they should cook meats thoroughly, use medical masks especially in crowded events, use hand sanitizers as well as minimise oversea travels for now.

“Any one, especially returnee and expatriates having fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, should be reported to the Rapid Response Team at the Treatment Centre, Unity  Square, Abakaliki.
