The Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed, has said the university was able to achieve some reasonable donations of equipment towards boosting learning and research through collaborations and linkages with universities, agencies and institutions within and outside the country.
Professor Mohammed who made the assertion while delivering a speech during this year’s annual research fair/exhibition of the University with theme ‘Repositioning the Young Academics Towards an Innovative Research and Academic Culture’ in Keffi, reiterated the university’s determinations to continue to initiate means to boost the programme.
According to him, through the gesture the university got the following donations: donation of engineering equipment by Larenzo University, Italy through National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure and, donation of 10 solar panels by National Agency for Science and Engineering (NASENI) as well as donation of analogue and digital weather facilities and a weather station by Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET).
His words: “The University has already entered into 15 collaborations and linkages with national and international agencies, which are yielding positive results. Other collaborative efforts with national and international agencies are ongoing with various departments, institutes and centers of the university”.
He further thanked TETFUND for providing the university with the necessary facilities that facilitate teaching, learning and training of the university’s staff.
While in his speech the Chancellor of the university and the emir of Keffi, Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, appealed that, the Library Division of the university be equipped and upgraded to the status of a publishing company in order to ease the problem of exploitation of lectures by publishers.
“I am also appealing to the university to partner with UNESCO to adopt more measures that will promote creativity with a view of reducing over-dependency of foreign published materials as a sustainable pathway to educational development”, Dr. Yamusa stated.
During the welcome address at the occasion, the director, Research and Publications of the University, Professor Sa,adatu Hassan Liman, described the University’s annual research fair exhibition as an all-important event, which provides a forum where the university showcases its research activities with the intention of fostering a strong collaboration between the university, government and industries.
Highlights of the occasion included presentations by all the deans of faculties within the university, goodwill messages and announcement of winners of the 5th Research Fair Exhibition.
