The Supreme Council of Knight of Saint Mulumba (KSM) in Nigeria has expressed displeasure with happenings in the country, saying all is not well with Nigeria.
Speaking at a press conference to precede the opening ceremony of the 40th KSM Supreme Convention holding in Jos, the Plateau state capital, the worthy Supreme Knight, Sir Diamond Ovueraye, said at 59 years of nationhood, nobody can thumb his chest and say all is well with the country.
He said the education system, hospital, roads, political system, the parlours security like banditry, kidnappings and killings, terrorism, are alarming, hence the call for regional policing.
“It is on account of these glaring inadequacies and challenges of the current policing efforts that we advocate Regional Policing, that comprises of people from that region, known to people, conversant with the territory and not acting as an occupational force”, he said.
Sir Ovueraye noted that the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa, aptly illustrates how low the nation has been sunk, saying the citizens are been terrorised at home and outside the shore.
The Supreme Council of the KSM outlined some activities they are working on aimed at improving and deepening their spirituality and social lives to include joint pilgrimage to Uganda and Israel through an agreement with the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, free medical mission to Abuja, Uyo and Ilorin while Kaduna is next by first quarter of 2020.
He said other activities are visitation to orphanages, hospitals, schools, correctional centres and internally displaced persons to provide them succour.
The Knight of Saint Mulumba Nigeria is an association of practicing Catholic men that willingly volunteer their time, treasure and talent for the service of God, the church and the society as well.
As part of activities marking the 40th KSM Supreme Convention in Jos, the group paid courtesy visit to the Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong, the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Gyang Buba, Industrial Training Funds (ITF) and the Chief Shepherd of Jos Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Ignatius Kaigama among others.
