HRH Madaki Yanki , late Sangarin Dari

BY DAVID DARI

Dari is a town in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, located in the north Central region of Nigeria. The town popularly known and addresses as Dari City, has so many positive historical occurrences too numerous to mention. The methodology of this piece is basically on the demised of her paramount ruler.

Dari has had series of paramount rulers since her inception in the 14th century, her traditional status metamorphosed from village head to district head and to fourth class status respectively. On the 16 of November 2019 the Paramount ruler of Dari Chiefdom HRH Madaki Yanki answered the inevitable called of Almighty God, after a briefed illness.

Our correspondent who was at Dari reported that all sons and daughters of the town as well as people from all works of life trooped into the town to condoled with the people of the Chiefdom.

So many attributes were made about the said Paramount ruler whom before his demise was waiting to be coroneted and to be given staff of office by the Nasarawa State Government, because the Chiefdom was upgraded from a district head to fourth class status recently by the immediate past governor of the state, Alhaji Umar Tanko Al-Makura, now a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing Nasarawa South Senatorial zone.

According to sources, the history of Gwandara nation would not be complete without the mention of Dari elites of blessed memories and the present ones as their indelible marks could be felt across the entire nation.

In an exclusive interview with Dr. John Waje Mamman, the Special Adviser to Nasarawa State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, a one-time permanent sectary with the state said: “The loss of Sangarin Dari to the community is a great lost.

“I feel we have lost a very great man; a hero of the community and aside he been our Chief the man I do know came to throne in 1987on the 7th of April and was a district head up to 27th May 2019 when the former governor of the state Umaru Tanko Al-Makura upgraded the Chiefdom to fourth class status. So to me his loss is not only to us but rather to the entire country.

“I represented the governor of Nasarawa State here Engineer Abdullahi Alhaji Sule who was unavoidably absent because he traveled to America and he said I should extend his condolences to the people of Dari Chiefdom, Kokona Local Government and the state as a whole. My own appeal is that the community should remain calm and peaceful with one another.”

On his part, Hon. Raphael Dogara Sa’ka a one time member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly said: “As far as am concerned, death is a natural phenomenon.  The demise of our Paramount ruler HRH, Madaki Yanki, is a great lost to us, though his life was well spent.

“The man was a wonderful man owing to the fact that during his reign, Dari Chiefdom witnessed tremendous developments, and he knows how to control his subjects. It is not easy for a chief to be on throne for up to 36 years and throughout his tenure we never witnessed any serious problems in Dari.”

Engineer Lawrence Ada’a former special assistant to the ex-Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura reiterated that: “The late Sangarin Dari was my uncle. He left a legacy in this land and today we are here to show our appreciation to God as regards the demise of HRH Madaki Yanki the first Sangarin Dari Chiefdom.

He was among the oldest Chiefs that ruled Dari. As far back as 1987 he was on throne. He has worked for us and what we are doing here today is to celebrate his demise. It is not even a sad moment for us because we are hoping and praying that God should grant him rest.

“Dari is a big and new Chiefdom. I am a member of this traditional council and from the royal house of the deceased. I am praying that God should choose a leader for us who will lead us like the late.

Hon. Augustine Ogaba is the secretary of kokona Local Government Council from Gurku Toni in Dari Chiefdom. In his tribute, he said: “The demise of Sangarin Dari is a big lost to kokona Local Government Area. He has shown starling qualities of leadership for us. He was a rallying point until his demised. His demised has left a big vacuum, but life has to continue.”

On his part, Mr. Bartholomew Alebera, former Principal of School of Nursing, Lafia in his tribute said: “As a matter of fact, we lost a very serious icon. He was a leader indeed, though he never acquired western education, but the way he operated with the affairs of the Chiefdom was very commendable.
