Professor Attahiru Jega, the immediate past chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has called on the commission to settle all outstanding challenges ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Jega made this call on Wednesday, October 23, while delivering a keynote address at the even marking the 20 years anniversary of Tell Magazine held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, on the topic ‘Democracy and Rule of Law’.

He observed that if outstanding issues are not been resolved, it will cause a reversal of the gains recorded since 1999 when Nigeria returned to civil rule.

He asked INEC to guard jealously the administrative and financial autonomy they have enjoyed, and to address all the challenges in order to enhance the credibility of the commission within Nigeria and beyond.
