The Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University Keffi, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed has revealed that the university was committed to establishing two new faculties: Health Science and Engineering adding that the management has already done its homework so that the two faculties will start at the 2020/2021 session.
Addressing a press conference ahead of the forthcoming university’s stakeholders meeting at the senate chamber of the university on Wednesday, September 11, the Vice Chancellor stated that the measure is part of efforts to create more opportunities for students who have interest in the new fields.
Professor Mohammed also revealed that the university has adopted a whistle-blower policy to track and address unethical conducts in all ramifications amongst staff and students in the institutions.
According to him, it was in the need to inject sanity and discipline in order to promote academic excellence without any hindrance or molestation.
“I am committed to fighting all unethical conducts amongst the staff and students. In fighting these unethical conducts, this administration will be fair, just and firm. There will be no sacred cow. I therefore seek for your cooperation, journalists, as well in this war against unethical practices in this university”, Prof. Mohammed said.
The Vice chancellor further stated that he want to seize the opportunity of the forthcoming stakeholders meeting to present his action plan for the university within the period of his tenure ship adding that the action plan will be best on 12 objectives which he is committed to pursue in order to make the university a 21st century university.
He added, “These objectives are infrastructural development, institutionalization of university culture, encourage quality research, ensure staff and students welfare, address labour matters, meet the needs of faculties, department and units, establish linkages with other bodies.
“Others include improve funding, investment in technology solutions for teaching, learning and research, academic programme development, environmental sanitation Development on campus and introduction of new programmes.
The Vice chancellor also used the occasion to cry out to the state government on the need to come to it assistance in offloading the heavy liabilities that hit over N1.7 billion it is groaning under.
Professor Mohammed further appealed to the state government to take over the payment of staff salaries and other entitlement as done in other sister institutions in the country adding that presently all the internally generating revenue being collected by the university were used for salaries argumentation as such it made it difficult to address most of the major challenges confronting the institution.
