On Wednesday, September 11, the Brekete Family live show programme entertained the case of a young lady by name Happiness Egbo who lives in Kabusa area and works at Gudu Market both in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
Miss Egbo was a victim of Facebook scammer who claimed he lives in California, USA. The young lady said she has spent about N180,000 on the said fraudster, before she came back to her senses. She equally paid N20,000 to officers of Special Armed Robbery Squad (SARS) to help track the fraudster, but to no avail.
According to her, the so-called Facebook boyfriend told her that he is a widower and has a baby of 8 years from his previous marriage, but promised to marry in place of his late wife.
When the relationship started he asked her to pay in N20,000 into an account for the treatment of his mother who slipped in the bathroom and hit her head on the floor. And after that she continued to pay in money on different occasions as the man continued to make unending financial requests.
The scammer promised to visit Jos, Plateau to attend the burial of mother and later told her that on his way from Jos to Abuja, his car was involved in an accident and that she should pay in money for treatment of one of the victims.
After her narrations, Ordinary President Ahmed Isah promised to help her locate the scammer through the help of the FCT Commission of Police Bala Ciroma.
He called on the general public to use the case of Happiness Egbo to learn their lessons.
