Local government councils in Nasarawa State have been tasked to step up effort towards improving their internally generated revenues (IGR) to enable them meet up with their over increasing financial challenges.

The special Adviser to the governor of Nasarawa State on Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. John Maman Waje gave the charge while speaking with newsmen in Keffi about the activities of the local council on Friday, September 7.

He said local government councils in the state should as a matter of necessity strive to beef up their revenue generation capacities in view of the reoccurring financial challenges and demand for services from their people as well as the dwindling revenues from the federal account.


“The best way out for local government and indeed all arms of the governments is to look onward to shore up their internally revenue generation capacities with a view to enabling them live up to expectations of their people”, Mamman stated.

 The Special Adviser also advised the local government councils to always ensure prudence and accountability in the management of the available resources at their disposal adding that they should channel them into projects and programmes that would improve the socio-economic well-being of their people.

He further reminded them to always remember that public office is a trust and as such they should endeavour to uphold the trust and confidence reposed on them by their people as it is the only way they would be able to live up to their covenant with them.

He then expressed his gratitude to President Muhammadu  Buhari and Governor Abdullahi A. Sule for their passion and commitments towards the revitalization of local government areas, saying that such support would enable them live up to the expectations of their people.

The Special Adviser who was a retired permanent secretary in the state’s Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs assured that on their part that they will render all the necessary support and guidance to enable the local councils succeed in the tasks ahead.
